The partnership signals Gainesville’s dedication to safe streets for all students and residents
The City of Gainesville has partnered with Urban SDK to aid with its traffic calming program, conduct implementation studies, and support its Vision Zero initiatives. This collaboration underscores Gainesville’s commitment to improving road safety and enhancing the quality of life for its residents — both permanent and student.
As Gainesville continues to grow, managing traffic speed, volumes, and safety becomes increasingly critical. With a population of over 120,000 and more than 700 centerline miles of roadways, Gainesville faces numerous challenges in maintaining safe and efficient transportation networks. The partnership with Urban SDK, a Florida-based leader in traffic management platforms, marks a significant step forward in addressing these challenges through innovative technology and data-driven solutions.
Gainesville’s use of Urban SDK’s platform will play a pivotal role in the city’s traffic management strategy. The platform provides validated traffic speed data and traffic volumes, allowing city officials to quickly respond to public complaints, identify slow zones, and evaluate the effectiveness of current traffic calming measures.
With approximately 200 traffic counts conducted annually, Gainesville will now have access to accurate and actionable data that supports informed decision-making and the successful implementation of Vision Zero goals.
"Our partnership with Gainesville is a testament to their proactive approach to traffic safety and their commitment to reducing traffic-related incidents," said Urban SDK's Ross Loehr. "It's perfect timing with school getting back in session. With our platform, officials will be able to monitor and analyze traffic patterns more efficiently, making it easier to address safety concerns."
Vision Zero is a key initiative for Gainesville, aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for all residents. Urban SDK’s platform will empower the city to achieve its Vision Zero goals by providing critical insights into traffic safety and helping to identify high-risk areas where interventions are most needed.
In addition, the platform’s ability to track and analyze traffic speed data will support Gainesville’s efforts to adjust speed limits in response to changing conditions and public feedback. By utilizing Urban SDK’s technology, the city can ensure that speed limits are appropriately set and enforced, contributing to safer streets for all road users.
Gainesville’s partnership with Urban SDK is part of a broader trend across Florida, where nearly 40 agencies have adopted Urban SDK’s traffic management platform to enhance traffic safety and enforcement. As a company headquartered in Florida, Urban SDK is deeply invested in the success of its home state’s communities.
This partnership also builds on Urban SDK’s existing collaboration with the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) to expand the university’s I-STREET Program, further solidifying Urban SDK’s presence and impact in the region.
"We’re proud to support Gainesville in its efforts to create safer streets and improve the overall quality of life for its residents," added Loehr. "Our platform is designed to help cities like Gainesville turn data into actionable insights, leading to more effective traffic management and safer communities."
