Urban SDK Partners With Ypsilanti

The City of Ypsilanti has teamed up with Urban SDK to leverage advanced data-driven solutions for safety and hotspot identification. Urban SDK's traffic management platform will assist Ypsilanti officials in proactively identifying and addressing areas prone to high traffic volumes and incidents, enhancing traffic safety across the community.

With a population of approximately 21,000, Ypsilanti is one of Michigan’s municipalities that faces unique traffic safety challenges in both urban and suburban settings.

From neighborhood speeding concerns to pedestrian safety, Ypsilanti’s officials see a need for traffic speed data and traffic volume analysis to strategically allocate resources and mitigate potential risks.

“As Ypsilanti continues to evolve, so do the challenges around ensuring safe mobility for our residents,” said Urban SDK's Eric Wingbermuehle. “Our partnership with Ypsilanti is exciting because we’ll be using cutting-edge technology to provide critical insights that directly support the city’s goals for safety and traffic enforcement. It’s about being proactive and efficient in solving these real-world problems.”

The collaboration with Urban SDK gives Ypsilanti access to a robust set of traffic safety tools designed to support municipal goals in managing traffic volumes, speed patterns, and high-risk areas. Using this data, the City can more effectively plan for traffic calming measures and allocate traffic enforcement resources.

Ypsilanti joins a growing client list in the Midwest, as Urban SDK pushes its operation into more than 31 states nationwide.

By adopting Urban SDK’s platform, Ypsilanti officials can seamlessly assess both real-time and historical data to make proactive decisions about traffic safety. For example, the platform’s hotspot identification tools allow officials to pinpoint areas where speeding and other issues are common, enabling targeted interventions that directly address resident concerns.

This partnership reflects a growing trend in Michigan municipalities adopting smart technology to address mobility and public safety.
