Winter Garden to Use Urban SDK for Advanced Traffic Calming Solutions: A Significant Addition to Central Florida's Smart City Initiative

The city of Winter Garden becomes the latest Florida municipality to adopt Urban SDK's traffic calming software.

City officials have made a concerted effort over the past 12+ months to address road safety, by adopting a three-phase approach to its "100% citywide traffic calming plan" — monitoring, enforcing, and controlling issues.

Said City Manager John C. Williams during a 2023 committee meeting, “We can say that we get traffic complaints on a daily basis, if not multiple times per day .... We are taking it very serious and trying to move something forward to address the immediate concern, as well as a plan for the long term."

With Urban SDK, officials can quickly address the multiple complaints referred to by City Manager Williams. By rapidly determining their validity, officials can move to determine what (if any) steps will be required to calm traffic in that area. This will all lead to the city's primary goal: Vision Zero and increased federal funding.

“The framework for the Vision Zero policy and the safety action plan will be what is required for us to participate in requests for some of the federal funding as we move forward,” said Williams.

Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Urban SDK is a traffic management software that provides officials with a better way to monitor the state of their roadways. They are currently partnered with over 50 Florida communities focused on traffic calming. This incluses several Central Florida organizations with close proximity to Winter Garden, such as the cities of Oviedo, Longwood, Sanford, and Seminole County.
